Office with a View

I’m sure most anyone who has worked in a small office cubical with no window and cramped spaces will truly appreciate this post.

I thought maybe it was about time I shared a little more detail about my new living spaces. With a private bed and bathroom plus the entire loft I have elected to use the ‘bedroom’ as a storage/dressing room. The loft is where I spend my time when indoors which working from home I am required to do at least occasionally.

I certainly can not complain one bit though. With my living space, office, and bed all in one central location it is really rather convenient rather than moving from room to room constantly. You know it never fails what you want or need is going to be in another room.

So, all three ‘rooms’ have the same view. To the north from my recliner I have two large triangular shaped windows pictured in these first two photos.

This photo shows the upper corner of one of the triangular windows as well as the beautiful chandler that hangs over the living room of the main area below.

Almost directly above my head is one of 4 skylights. This picture shows the one to the southeast of where I’m setting. The other two skylights bank the chandler.

Facing the south are these two large windows that look out over the driveway but from the comfort of my chair with laptop in front of me I see more sky and trees.

This last picture was taken from the railing of the loft and shows the fireplace on the lower level flanked by solid glass French doors on each side. Above the doors are 2 rectangular windows and above those are the 2 triangular windows mentioned above.

The fireplace and lower windows are in full view from my ‘desk’ which I’ve placed just next to the railing. Yes, I am enjoying my new office space with all the spectacular views of sky and greenery.

I have uploaded all of these photos to Shareapic where you can view them full sized along with many of the other photos I’ve taken the last few months.

Moving Part 3

Well, I have vacated the old house and although not settled am in the 'new place'. Very unorganized still but am starting to get things in place and it is feeling more like 'home'.

Anyone who has been divorced might appreciate this fact. I am now renting from one of my ex-husbands. We've been divorced for nearly 16 years and have not had a good relationship since but it was offered.

His house is huge, beautiful, and on a quiet country road. You would think this would be perfect for 'writing' - has been my dream for many years as I was living on Main St. in a small but hectic small town. Not so 'quiet' here though. My daughter and her family (including my 4 year old grandson and 2 year old granddaughter) are living in the finished walk-out basement. My ex has the main floor.

I have the loft plus a room and private bath on the main floor. The photo here is of the back of the house but only shows the 2 upper levels - the triagle window and skylights are my main living area and there are the same on the opposite side of the house, lots of windows and light.

I love being close and here for my daughter and grandchildren but can see already it is going to take some major adjustments. When the little ones are in the house they want to be with Grandma. This cuts into my quiet work time alot. Last night we faught for an hour with the 2 year old because she wanted to sleep with grandma.

Grandma was just too tired to be up most of the night worrying about her as I certainly do not trust her with the loft rails and spiral stairs ;( I felt bad when my daughter carried her to her own room screaming 'wanna seep wif Gamma, wanna seep wif Gamma'

Moving Part 2

Well, of the millions of times I've moved I would say this move has been the most difficult and most unorganized.

As I had little warning of the move I didn't have time to do much but throw things in boxes and bags. I did attempt to lable some boxes but this was no help when thinks I need regularly were buried in a pile of 'un-needed' things. It's been over a week now and the best I have managed is to find a few changes of cloths, my shampoo and conditier have finally been located, and my bed is set-up.

When you move do you have a system? In the past I have and it worked quiet well. Labeling boxes with the room it goes into; such as kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, etc. and also including a brief list of what is in that particular box. A box for the kitchen might have a label 'Kitchen - pots & pans' or 'Kitchen - canned goods'.

Another tip is when the physical move happens YOU should be at the new location when items are brought in. This way before something is sat down you can direct the labor which room to place the box or item in. This saves a lot of time and energy for yourself when you start to unpack and set-up your new home.

Off to look for the rest of my cloths now - I have managed to get all of those bags in one central location but now need to open, unpack, sort, and refold or hang-up as needed.

Moving

I'm going to be out of touch for the next week or so. I am moving and will not be able to post new posts until I get a bit settled in the new 'home'. I hope to be back online ASAP and with a faster ISP connection so should be able to do much more in less time online when that happens.

Am moving about 15 miles from where I currently live and have for the most part for the last 20+ years (3 different homes but in the same township). Other than the physical work of moving I think that is what is most difficult for me - it seems like I'm being totally uprooted from everything I am used to.

This move was and is not my choice but my landlord of 2 1/2 years is selling my home and wants it empty when it goes up for auction.
